With our own glory like cut flowers
and the falling days like petals
to grace your table, I see how
faith divorced from reason leaves
a course without correction
and correction without a course.
So the end is near. So it has been
since before there were tongues
to proclaim it. Hear the silence
of the dead? This is the listing
of our psychic landscapes
from land to air.
Forgive me for my faith, but I believe
love was a man walking
upright and humble among apes
as we all misunderstood him
correctly.
And perhaps, just perhaps there is no end
to the human race - maybe doomsday is
yesterday goading us on to forever where
those silver sails that crashed
so wakeless into glass
will open in the emptiness
of an airless there on winds of light
beyond present thought
yet within the capacity of our heirs
with holdings beyond lands so holy
as to kill and die and stagnate there.
