POETS OF THE WEEK

~ This week's featured poets are:

GABRIELLE MITTELBACH, MARGOT LURIE and PJ NIGHTS:

GABRIELLE MITTELBACH (Los Angeles, California) was the first place
winner of the 2007 Poetry Super Highway poetry contest. She has had
poetry published in journals such as Rattle and Nimrod. She is
currently editing her first book of poetry called Kisses for the
   Possessed.

MARGOT LURIE (New York, New York) works at Parnassus: Poetry in
   Review.

PJ NIGHTS (Brunswick, Maine) was born and raised in the wild and
ravi****ng state of Maine, from which outpost she teaches physics,
stargazes, and publishes and edits the quarterly journal, "from east
to west: bicoastal verse." For her, poetry is less about the concrete
and more about the emotional and spiritual, about the sense of wonder
she gets from a unique image or a surprising use of language. No
particular formula works to elicit a reader's "gasps", but those
quick breaths of appreciation when a poet's intent strikes home are
what she looks for in poems and hopes to achieve with her own. She
writes to keep her brain from turning to mush, and, hopefully, to
leave little bits of beauty in her wake.

Click on "POETS OF THE WEEK" from the main PSH menu to read their
   work.

POETRY SUPER HIGHWAY BOOKSTORE

Featured this week in the PSH Bookstore:

   THE ENDARKENMENT by JEFFREY MCDANIEL

"Known for his commanding stage presence as a reader, McDaniel trades
hard in his fourth book on his rough-and-tumble persona--a recovering
addict from the working class streets--while also showing softer
sides. McDaniel's sometimes awkward, if earnest searching might just
be what allows him to find moments of great beauty, humor and
   stillness." --Publishers Weekly

³Even if you count yourself among the unredeemed who claim they don't
like poetry, buy this book anyway. It will convert you and install a
skylight in your brain. Alive and kicking in these pages is the voice
of a brilliantly comic consciousness. McDaniel is a candid, frisky
survivor: hyperalert, conversant with drugs and sobriety, obscene
phone call addicts, 'boner etiquette,¹ fatherhood, the special hell
of family, being an Œemotional warrior¹ and so much more. He's an
urban wordsmith of the first order. You hold in your hands his
anguished autobiography, a smorgasbord of famished compassion,
   tenderness, luminous surprises, and armor-piercing humor.² ‹Amy
   Gerstler

"McDaniel zings metaphors across the page like he's the Robin
Williams of poetry. This collection in frequently moving and
inventive with enough lightheartedness and whimsy to balance the
heaviness of the darker moments." --hipbooksterclub.com

Paperback, 80 pages, published by University of Pittsburgh Press,
   (April, 2008)

~ If you are or were a featured poet of the week on the Poetry Super
Highway AND you have a book available through Amazon.com, please let
me know so we can feature your work in the Poetry Super Highway
Bookstore in a new section just for former featured poet's books.
