Unlike Word, the margins within PageMaker don't mean anything - they're
there only as a guide for you the user. The amount of data that can be
printed to the page and how close to the edge you can get will depend
on the printer and driver software. A good miniumum for most inkjets is
0.5 inches from all sides, while laser printers can usually go to
0.25inches.
PageMaker can print to non-postscript printers with no problems, the
exception being if you use Postscript fonts or images of course. To get
around this you can ex****t the PageMaker do***ent to a PDF and then
print the PDF instead.
The "hairline page outline" sounds like you using the printer's own "2
per page" option, which will make the pages smaller than "normal" or
even "half-normal". Creating a do***ent that uses full A4 pages (to use
a simple example size) and then trying to get the printer to shrink
them to 2xA5 to an A4 isn't the best way to achieve what you want.
There's two ways to get what you want:
- A5 sized pages
Define the do***ent within PageMaker to use A5 sized pages
and then design the do***ent in the reader's order
(ie. page 1, page 2, page 3, etc.). Once finalised you can
use the Build Booklet plug-in to create the 2xA5 to an A4
for printing.
- A4 sized pages
Define the do***ent to use A4 pages and set them to have two
columns with a gap / gutter of twice the margin measurements.
Design the do***ent in this order:
Do***ent page 1 = Book page X and book page 1
Do***ent page 2 = Book page 2 and book page X-1
Do***ent page 3 = Book page X-2 and book page 3
Do***ent page 4 = Book page 4 and book page X-3
...
Do***ent page X/2 = Book page X/2 and book page (x/2)+1
Note the zig-zag pattern of the book pages on alternating
right and left sides of the do***ent pages.
This will then print in the correct order for assembling into
the final book.
Either way, when printing turn OFF the silly "2 per page" option in the
print window and print normal sized pages.
