Help Pagmaker 6.5 will not place Word 2003 file

I've used my 6.5 for some time, but have hit a wall....

I need to place a Word 2003 do***ent in Pagemaker, and it will not
place....

I've tried saving in Word 97 format and RTF format to no avail. Errors
relate to "invalid data", "invalid character set - courier used", and
"cannot paste clipboard", and invariably, test is not placed.

Help, please!
